‘Do something NEW New Zealand’

This is the new campaign for New Zealand domestic tourism! Now is the perfect time to get out and explore our own backyard! So I thought I would jump on the band wagon and write about my top 5 NEW things I have always wanted to do but never have had the chance to!

  1. Ski in Queenstown

I’ve actually never skied at all! But what an amazing opportunity to have ski fields so close to me! I’d obviously have to take some lessons and I’ll probably end up sliding down the hill on my backside… but it’ll be worth it! So this is kind of a double bucket list item!

2. Go to Abel Tasman

I was lucky to have travelled a lot of New Zealand when I first arrived here over 4 years ago, but Abel Tasman is one of the places that I just didn’t have time to visit! And it is one of my biggest travel regrets! It would be a dream to do the coastal walkway. And also do one of the kayak tours that they’re so famous for.

3. Shotover Canyon Swing

I’ve had my eye on this for years! I’ve been to Queenstown twice and never had the chance to do it! I love a bit of thrill… but funnily enough a bungee jump has never appealed to me. Maybe it’s the idea of being strapped at the ankles and plummeting head first toward the ground. But this, although a huge freefall and adrenaline rush, seems a bit less confronting!! And what better place to do something like that than the adventure capital of the world!?

4. Cape Reigna

4 years ago I arrived in New Zealand, picked up my campervan and drove up north. I had all intentions to make it to the very top of the country. But it just wasn’t meant to be! I got stuck in a tropical storm, so had to batten down the hatches and wait it out. And I never made it further than Kaitia. So I would love to head back up and complete my journey in the Northland and get to see the famous landmark lighthouse at Cape Reinga.

5. Hike Mt Karioi

Yes I know… Mt Kariori is so close to Raglan! I’m a little ashamed to say that after 2 ½ years of living here I still haven’t hiked up it! I’ve always intended to, but when something is so close you feel like you could do it whenever you want! So subsequently… you never do it! Well I guess now is the time! This is taking the ‘backyard’ statement to a whole new level. It promises a great adventure and amazing views along the way!

Hopefully in a few months time I will be writing about some of the amazing NEW things I have done in New Zealand. And I can’t wait!
