FAQ
Answers to questions that matter most in your life
Who stays at a hostel?
Anyone and everyone! Friends, couples or solo travellers, our guests come from all over the world and all walks of life. Whatever your age or interests, you’ll find like-minded people here.
Do I need a car?
No. Raglan is an easy bus journey from Auckland or Hamilton, and once you’re here we are a one minute walk into the town centre and have the stunning Raglan Harbour right on our doorstep, plus we offer transport to the nearest surf beach (5min drive).
Do you stay open in winter?
Absolutely! Raglan stays warm and sunny all year round and some of the best surfing can be found in the winter months. The hostel is set up to keep you warm in the winter weather and we have an exciting programme of winter activities to keep you entertained in the evenings.
Can I use the facilities after I check out?
Of course. Although we ask you to vacate your room by ten o’clock, you are welcome to use any of our facilities on the day you leave, including the surfboards, paddle boards and kayaks.
Can I arrive late at night?
Yes. If you are planning to arrive after 20:30 just let us know and we’ll send you details of how to check in. We also have a night manager on site for emergencies.
Is there a hostel curfew?
You are free to come and go whenever you like. However, we are not a party hostel and do ask our guests to keep noise levels down after 10 o’clock in the evenings to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep.
Do you have WiFi?
Yes, we have free unlimited WiFi right across the hostel, but with the endless awesome activities on offer in Raglan, you’ll be too busy to need it! We are famous for being a really friendly hostel, where it’s easy to meet other travellers, and we encourage our guests to interact with each other, make new friends and ask for advice from others, rather than staying glued to their phones.
Do you have a minimum stay policy?
During the summer high season we do have a two-night minimum for advance bookings. We find it’s much easier to enjoy all that Raglan has to offer in at least two days and most of our guests end up staying longer than they planned. BUT we will take one-night bookings if we have space on the day – just call or walk-in.
Do you take groups?
We generally only take groups in the off season (May – August). Unfortunately, during the busy season our facilities are unsuitable for groups of 5 or more in most instances.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, although there is a 2% charge on these transactions. Eftpos use is free or to pay by cash, there are two ATMs in Raglan just a short stroll away.
What is the difference between a surf package and the Surf Camp?
The surf packages are your room and surf board RENTALS.
The surf camp takes it one step further and is your accommodation and Surf LESSONS with one of our qualified instructors.
